Are you interested in artificial intelligence, cloud technology, and data engineering? Join the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) as an AI Data Engineer Student Trainee and gain hands-on experience supporting technology solutions that serve the Federal workforce.
As a Pathways Intern, you'll work alongside experienced data engineers while learning how modern cloud platforms, data pipelines, artificial intelligence tools, and software development practices are used to solve real business problems. You'll receive mentoring, structured training, and practical experience designed to prepare you for a career in federal information technology.
What You'll Learn
During your internship, you'll build experience with:
- Data engineering fundamentals
- Use SQL to retrieve and analyze data from enterprise data sources.
- Cloud computing in Microsoft Azure
- Databricks and modern data platforms
- Data pipeline concepts
- Artificial intelligence tools for software development
- Agile software development practices
- Technical documentation
- Professional collaboration and communication
During your internship, you ll build experience with:

Onsite, Macon, Georgia - Eligibility:
You must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled). - U.S. citizenship required.
- Student Status:
Applicants must have at least 1 academic year (fall and spring session) remaining in their studies before they complete their current degree requirements. - Temporary internship expected to start at the end of August 2026 and continue through December 2026.
