Pendleton Correctional Facility

Pendleton Correctional Facility is a maximum‑security facility located in Pendleton, Indiana, housing incarcerated adult males. The facility also operates an adjacent minimum‑security dormitory. While the campus has historic origins, it includes updated housing units and medical areas that support modern correctional operations. Incarcerated individuals can participate in educational programs, GED preparation, and literacy courses. Additional opportunities include substance abuse treatment, parenting courses, and vocational training in auto body repair and printing.

Staff emphasize safety, accountability, and skill development.

Role Overview

As an Accountant you will be based at the facility and will process Accounts Payable, Recreation Fund, and Miscellaneous Fund transactions. This position is responsible for processing transactions associated with the payment of invoices in People Soft.

Salary

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $37,648.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

A Day In The Life
  • Post transactions to appropriate ledgers and accounts.
  • Verify accuracy of all financial documents and records.
  • Reconcile accounts and subsidiary ledgers with the general ledger.
  • Prepare, correct, and adjust entries prior to closing accounts.
  • Prepare periodic financial reports such as balance sheets and income statements.
  • Ensure availability of funds before authorizing payment or submitting vouchers for payment to the State Auditor’s Office for approval.
  • Prepare, edit, and verify electronic data processing entries and documents.
  • Recommend changes in accounting policies and assist in developing accounting procedures.

What You’ll Need For Success
  • Foundational knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of public accounting.
  • Foundational knowledge of agency function and organization.
  • Foundational knowledge of the federal and state laws, procedures, practices and policies of governmental accounting and bookkeeping.
  • Foundational knowledge of automated accounting systems.
  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to solve standard accounting problems.
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend modifications to existing accounting methods and procedures.
  • Ability to accurately perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate and concise reports.
  • Effective communication skills.
