About Edinburgh Correctional Facility:
Edinburgh Correctional Facility is a minimum‑security facility located in Edinburgh, Indiana, on the grounds of Camp Atterbury and houses more than 300 incarcerated adult males. The facility maintains strong partnerships with Camp Atterbury, community organizations, and state agencies to provide work crew opportunities. These crews contribute valuable labor that supports military operations and civic projects across Indiana. The facility also offers programs, services, and educational opportunities focused on personal development.

Role Overview :
As an Accountant you will manage all Operating and PM fund purchases in compliance with IDOA, DOC, and Indiana Code policies, ensuring timely procurement and proper vendor clearances. Responsibilities include maintaining required documentation, reconciling funds weekly, closing purchase orders, assisting with contract preparation, reviewing purchasing documents, entering financial transactions in People Soft, and processing Reports of Collections. The role supports business office and warehouse operations, oversees purchasing for Madison and Edinburgh Correctional Facilities, is based in Edinburgh with occasional travel to Madison, and provides warehouse coverage as needed.
Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
* Advise the supervisor of the status of all accounts.
* Assist management in the preparation of agency or program area budget requests.
* Develop and recommend implementation of new accounting methods and procedures pertaining to this positions' area of responsibility.
* Advise program staff on accounting matters relating to specific program funding.
* Assist in the development and maintenance of general policies for a fiscal program.
* Coordinate use of the computerized accounting system for the program area.
* Certify the accuracy of financial records and accounts.
* Analyze and interprets financial statements and reports.
* Control the flow of appropriated funds.
* Reconcile complex discrepancies between accounts.
* Interact with, and respond to, state and federal audit representatives.
* Make necessary adjustments to close books.

What You'll Need for Success:

* Ability to develop accounting methods and procedures to meet agency needs.
* Ability to assist in budget preparation.
* Ability to prepare and interpret financial statements and reports.
* Ability to reconcile discrepancies in accounts.
* Ability to develop effective work relationships.
* Effective communication skills.
