Tax and Accounting Manager/ Senior Manager
Hybrid flexibility | $150,000 to $180,000
If you enjoy the small firm environment but are starting to feel like you've hit a ceiling, or you're nervous about what the future might look like as more firms explore Private Equity, this could be worth a conversation
This is a well established local CPA firm with fewer than 20 people that has been part of the community for more than 30 years. They are independent, intend to stay that way, and are investing in the future rather than standing still.
For someone who enjoys having a voice in the direction of a firm, there is plenty of opportunity to influence how things evolve. If ownership is something that interests you longer term, there is a path there. If it isn't, that's absolutely fine too. The priority is simply finding the right senior person to help lead the next phase of growth.
You'll work closely with the firm's lead CPA and wider leadership team, providing senior support across the practice and acting as a key resource for both staff and clients. For someone coming in at Manager or Senior Manager level, there is a clear opportunity to become the go to person alongside the lead CPA. Equally, if you're already operating at Director level, there is scope to join as more of a peer and help shape the future direction of the firm together.
The role itself is broad, which is part of the appeal.
You'll review tax work, mentor and support the team, act as the go to person on technical issues, and work directly with clients. You'll still be hands on, but you'll also have the opportunity to influence how the firm evolves.
The client base is loyal and relationship driven, with a strong presence across agriculture, farming, agricultural suppliers, horse breeders, manufacturing, and other owner managed businesses throughout the local area.
There is also a sizeable accounting and advisory piece to the firm. Around 50% of revenue comes from tax, with the remainder coming from CAS services including month end close, bookkeeping, financial statements, and advisory work for around 30 to 40 clients.
If you enjoy CAS and advisory, there is a real opportunity to take ownership of that area and help shape what those services look like going forward. Equally, if tax is your thing, that's absolutely fine too.
The firm is also modernising. They are embracing technology, leveraging AI where it makes sense, and creating workflows that support a more sustainable way of working.
Key highlights:
- Outside of busy season the expectation is typically 3 - 4 days in the office with flexibility around hybrid working
- Busy season is max 60 hours
- Tax planning work starts towards the end of September, creating advisory opportunities throughout the yearCPA, EA, and experienced non credentialed professionals will all be considered
- Longer term, equity ownership could be an option for someone who wants it, but there is absolutely no expectation that this has to be part of your career plan
