Westville Correctional Facility

Westville Correctional Facility is a multi‑level security facility located in Westville, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 3,400 incarcerated adult males. Originally built as a state hospital, the campus was converted to a correctional facility in 1979. The institution offers numerous programs focused on education, re‑entry, and community service. Partnerships include Gold Standard Truss, which operates a truss manufacturing site on facility grounds, and the Moreau College Initiative through the University of Notre Dame and Holy Cross College.

Role Overview

As the Administrative Assistant to the Reentry Department you will provide key support for appeals, reentry initiatives, vital documents, and programming. This role ensures accurate, timely documentation; maintains compliance with IDOC policies; coordinates communication across departments and external agencies; and assists with tracking program participation and offender records.

Salary

A Day In The Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Provides advanced administrative support to an agency, department, or facility.
  • Reviews the organizational structure and functions of assigned program area to recommend changes to promote effectiveness.
  • Administers staff functions in support of program area.
  • Aids program administrator in applying agency or department policies and procedures.
  • Represents program administrator in meetings with representative of other agencies, and interested public to explain and interpret program goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepares, evaluates, and maintains administrative reports, policies, and procedures for different program areas

What You'll Need For Success

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

  • Specialized knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of administrative management.
  • Working knowledge of state governmental administrative structure.
  • Working knowledge of assigned program area.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and multitask.
  • Ability to coordinate and motivate professional and support personnel.
  • Ability to communicate, both orally and verbally, with diverse public.
  • Attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to establish cooperative work relationships.
  • Ability to analyze, update and write procedures and policies.

A degree is not required. However, at least 5+ years of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports
