Job Summary

Newton Circuit Court is hiring a Court Administrator to serve as the right hand to the Circuit Court Judge and the operational backbone of the courthouse. If you're organized, discreet, and energized by variety, we want you to apply.

What You'll Do
  • Own the Court calendar: schedule, coordinate, and track hearing and trial dates with attorneys to keep everything running on time and in compliance
  • Prepare judicial orders and review legal filings, forms, and documents for accuracy, flagging issues and updating dockets as needed
  • Manage Court finances: build and balance the annual budget, process payroll (including leave and pay changes), and handle appropriations, encumbrances, and reporting
  • Provide direct administrative support to the Judge, including correspondence, transcription, and meeting coordination
  • Serve as the first point of contact for the public: answering calls, greeting visitors, and directing people to the right resource with professionalism and patience
  • Support the jury process alongside the Bailiff, from questionnaires to summoning
  • Act as a liaison between the Court and other government agencies, county departments, and the public
What You Bring
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle competing deadlines under pressure
  • Basic accounting/bookkeeping skills: comfort with budgets, payroll, and arithmetic
  • Solid computer skills; familiarity with Odyssey case management (or similar systems) is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with sound grammar and attention to detail
  • Professionalism, discretion, and cultural sensitivity when working with the public, attorneys, and colleagues
  • A commitment to confidentiality and compliance with Indiana Supreme Court recordkeeping requirements
  • Working knowledge of legal terminology and standard court documents is a plus

Newton Circuit Court provides reasonable accommodation to qualified applicants and employees with disabilities.
