Position Overview

The Director of Business Development will possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and strong leadership/coordination acumen. They will be responsible for aggressively prospecting, identifying, qualifying, developing, and securing construction management and design-build business opportunities to support the company's revenue growth. This is a hands‑on management position requiring flexibility and adaptability in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment. A strategic understanding of AEC sales processes and business operations is mandatory.

Must have Pharmaceutical Industrial Manufacturing background.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify New Opportunities: Proactively seek out and identify potential business opportunities in the commercial construction industry.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, suppliers, and industry professionals.
  • Strategic Planning: Create and implement strategic plans to achieve business growth and market expansion.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive landscape.
  • Sales Leadership: Lead and mentor the business development team, setting clear goals and expectations.
  • Proposal Management: Oversee the preparation and submission of construction bids and proposals, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Client Management: Manage key client relationships, ensuring satisfaction and long‑term partnerships.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on business development activities, sales performance, and market insights.
Qualifications
  • Education: Four‑year degree in business administration, communications, marketing, construction, or a similar technical‑related field.
  • Relative

    Experience:

    8‑10 years of business development experience with 3‑5 years of this experience being in the construction industry (i.e., General Contractor, Construction Manager, Design‑Builder, etc.) is preferred.
  • Sales: Previous sales experience in Life Sciences, Aviation + Aerospace, and/or Industrial + Manufacturing, Food & Beverage and Data center markets is preferred. Experience must be substantiated through recent and existing client relationships.
  • Proposals: Experience supported by an in‑depth understanding of the various stages of qualifications‑based proposal/presentation methods (e.g., Design‑Build, Construction Management at Risk, etc.) is preferred.
  • Interpersonal: Able to work well with and persuade people at all levels of an organization. Works well in a group environment and fosters a team‑first approach/mindset. Seeks ways to provide mutual internal support to others.
  • Goal‑Oriented: Able to establish SMART goals and achieve them (i.e., Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time‑Bound).
  • Organized: Able to plan, prioritize, organize, multi‑task, and monitor activities and opportunities.
  • Communication: Excellent oral presentation and written skills. Understands the services they are selling evidenced by an ability to draft/edit/review written proposal content. Openly shares/communicates all known sales lead information with their business development team members.
Additional Requirements
  • Travel: Willingness to travel as required for client meetings and industry events.
  • Compliance: Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to lift and carry office supplies and equipment up to 20 pounds
