About the Indiana Department of Administration (IDOA) :
IDOA centrally manages activities relating to state purchasing, the vehicle fleet, state travel, real estate leases, property disposition, and the Government Center Campus, among others. In addition to agency support, the department provides assistance to minority, women, and veteran business enterprises interested in state contracting opportunities. Through its activities, IDOA helps to ensure the smooth function of state government, finding efficient and effective solutions to government-wide needs.
Role Overview :
The Communications Director oversees and is responsible for developing, implementing, and measuring internal and external communications plans that support the agency’s strategy, culture, and key initiatives.
Salary Statement
:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:The essential functions of this roles are as follows:
- Support all divisions by managing the development and dissemination of human resources communications and other pertinent information to all internal and external staff;
- Develop, recommend, and implement communications strategies that effectively communicate agency’s initiatives, strategies and goals throughout the department and statewide;
- Develop and implement programs and processes that enable the agency to more effectively communicate human resources information to all state employees;
- Develop a system that ensures consistent collection and distribution of policies, programs, directories, forms, and reports;
- Develop recommendations for communications material;
- Write, edit, and proofread all departmental communications prior to distribution or oversees such activities;
- Direct and manage the publication of all department communications materials, including, but not limited to internet, intranet, and all employee communications;
- Drive the development and execution of agency’s internal communication plan to improve employee understanding of our goals, priorities and results;
- Counsel management on the public/employee relations implications of policies and procedures being formulated and recommends specific actions towards gaining favorable reactions from their audience;
- Respond to external complaints, inquiries and requests for information including Governor’s correspondence;
- Partner with functional leadership in developing key messages and coordinating with external communications;
- Coordinate, integrate and promote internal communications best practices;
- Work with information technology to enhance effectiveness of agency’s internet and intranet web sites.

What You ll Need for Success:- Extensive knowledge of journalism, communications, marketing, web applications or public relations;
- Familiarity with desktop publishing;
- Advanced knowledge of web development;
- Strong writing, editing, and proof reading skills;
- Thorough knowledge of agency’s policies and procedures;
- Extensive knowledge of agency functions, and the ability to incorporate and administer communications programs adhering to missions and goals of the agency;
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, able to build relationships, establish credibility, and influence leaders at all levels;
- Strong organizational skills, meticulous, and effective at public speaking and moderating large groups;
