About the RoleWe are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Procurement Specialist 1 to join our Supply Chain Department in Indianapolis, IN. This role will support sourcing activities, RFQ creation, purchase order processing, supplier communication, data tracking, and coordination with senior buyers and internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience supporting procurement for government, industrial, or aerospace operations.
Key Responsibilities- Source, negotiate, and purchase machinery, equipment, tools, parts, materials, and services needed for aerospace operations.
- Create and issue RFQs, request certifications from suppliers, and prepare purchase orders (under $30K, or higher per manager discretion).
- Monitor supplier acknowledgments, delivery schedules, and update SAP with accurate status notes.
- Assist senior buyers with purchase order documentation and supplier management.
- Track past due purchase orders and ensure data accuracy in SAP.
- Troubleshoot supplier invoice discrepancies and provide resolution support.
- Participate in supplier visits and help develop agendas for program reviews.
- Analyze statistical data to evaluate pricing, feasibility, and supplier performance.
- Maintain records, analyze trends, and ensure ethical procurement practices.
- Support additional projects and initiatives as assigned.
Candidates must meet ONE of the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field OR
- Associate degree + 4 years of directly related purchasing/subcontracting experience OR
- High School Diploma/GED + 8 years of directly related purchasing/subcontracting experience
- Experience in government, industrial, or aerospace procurement preferred
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong communication and supplier-facing negotiation skills
- Ability to analyze financial and operational data
- Able to work overtime, weekends, or alternate shifts as required
- Ability to obtain/maintain Public Trust or DoD Security Clearance (if required)
