- Oversee and support the Purchasing team, including workload distribution, coaching, and accountability.
As the Purchasing Manager at PWI, you are responsible for ensuring materials, components, and purchased products are available to support production schedules and customer commitments. Your role focuses on forecasting purchasing needs, building strong supplier relationships, and leading purchasing operations to maintain quality, cost, and delivery expectations. By proactively planning inventory needs, negotiating vendor agreements, and coordinating purchasing activities across departments, you help keep projects moving efficiently from sales through production and installation.
Responsibilities- Purchasing Strategy & Forecasting: Forecast material, component, and inventory needs to support production schedules and customer demand. Analyze purchasing trends and proactively plan future requirements to prevent shortages and production delays.
- Supplier & Vendor Management: Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, source new vendors, negotiate pricing and contracts, and evaluate supplier performance to ensure quality, cost, and delivery expectations are met.
- Purchasing Operations & Team Leadership: Lead the Purchasing team, oversee purchasing activities within the ERP system, and coordinate with production, engineering, and other departments to ensure materials and information are available when needed.

Education or Experience
- 5+ years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience.
- Previous leadership or team oversight experience
- Experience sourcing raw materials, components, and purchased products in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Steel sourcing experience preferred.
- Experience forecasting inventory and purchasing needs preferred.
- No specific certifications required.
- Additional training will be provided as needed.
- Experience using ERP systems required;
Microsoft Business Central experience is a plus. - Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Ability to analyze purchasing trends and forecast future needs.
- Proficient with Microsoft and Google Suite products.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Frequently required to communicate with suppliers, team members, and internal departments.
- May occasionally move or organize samples, materials, or documents as needed.
- Able to analyze information and make sound purchasing decisions.
- Able to prioritize multiple requests and deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
- Able to communicate effectively with suppliers and internal teams in both verbal and written forms.
- Willing to work on-site at PWI in Nappanee, Indiana.
