S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate part-time entry-level Laboratory Technician who likes working with their hands and doesn't mind getting dirty to join our Construction Services team in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Responsibilities- Perform and record tests on construction materials (soil, concrete, masonry, asphalt) with accuracy and meticulousness.
- Collaborate with seasoned technicians and experts to ensure test results are logical, thorough, and prepared for review.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and efficiency.
- Assist with equipment calibrations and maintain accurate documentation of test outcomes.
- Adapt to shifting work hours weekly based on project needs and weather conditions, including early mornings, some weekends, and overtime paid at time and a half.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn; obtaining certifications is part of your growth.
- Active industry-related certifications preferred (e.g., American Concrete Institute Field Testing Grade I, Strength Testing Technician, Laboratory Technician;
International Code Council Special Inspector – Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils; DOT Certifications in Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete). - Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills in English.
- Basic math skills with understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure.
- Understanding of a fluctuating weekly schedule.
- Work most of the time in an office, may be requested to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Walk on a concrete/tile floor and stand for up to 12 hours a day.
- Lifting and carrying 40–50 lbs of field/laboratory samples and equipment.
- Safely handle field tools and maneuver equipment on active construction sites.
