Position SummaryThe Field Superintendent – Mechanical / Sheet Metal Construction is responsible for overseeing field operations for commercial and industrial HVAC and sheet metal construction projects. This role coordinates multiple Foremen, crews, subcontractors, and field activities to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and according to company and customer standards.
Under the direction of the General Superintendent – Mechanical, the Field Superintendent provides operational field leadership, manpower coordination, project execution oversight, quality control, and jobsite support across assigned projects.
This role is focused strictly on commercial HVAC and sheet metal construction installation work. Service, maintenance, and refrigeration backgrounds are not the target for this position.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties- Organizes, coordinates, and supervises field operations and the work of multiple Foremen and crews on commercial and industrial HVAC and sheet metal projects
- Coordinates workforce allocation based on project needs, employee abilities, and training
- Collaborates with Project Managers and the General Superintendent to execute projects safely, on schedule, and to labor targets
- Reviews drawings, specifications, and schedules, and conducts jobsite visits, quality inspections, and safety observations
- Resolves field conflicts, manpower challenges, and operational issues
- Coordinates material deliveries, equipment, subcontractors, and jobsite logistics
- Ensures compliance with OSHA standards, customer requirements, and company safety policies
- Supports startup, punch list, and closeout activities, and mentors Foremen and field personnel
- Strong leadership, supervisory, and decision-making abilities
- Extensive knowledge of commercial HVAC and sheet metal construction and sequencing
- Ability to manage multiple crews and priorities simultaneously
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and schedules
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 5 years of commercial or industrial HVAC/sheet metal construction experience preferred
- Previous Foreman or Superintendent experience strongly preferred
- Experience managing multiple field crews and coordinating construction activities
- Strong commercial ductwork and HVAC installation background required
- Experience with large-scale commercial or industrial construction projects preferred
- Service technician or refrigeration-only backgrounds will not be considered
- General computer, communication, and interpersonal skills required
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the United States
- Requires standing, bending, reaching, and lifting throughout the workday
- Lift repetitively up to 50 pounds
- Work from scaffolding and lifts
- Drive a company vehicle (truck)
- Capable of driving long distances between jobsites
- Other manual labor as required
