Project Manager/Estimator (Small Projects)

Location:

Gas City, IN; project sites within a 75‑mile radius of Gas City.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager/Estimator to contribute to the successful execution of our construction projects. This combined role is responsible for both estimating the costs of small‑to‑medium sized projects and managing those projects through to completion. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of civil, concrete, carpentry, and steel construction methods and can balance estimating and project management in a fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimating
    • Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors for small‑to‑medium sized civil, concrete, carpentry, and steel projects.
    • Review project plans, specifications, drawings, and bid documents to determine scope and identify potential challenges or cost‑saving opportunities.
    • Conduct site visits to gather data, assess feasibility, and evaluate site conditions that could impact costs.
    • Collaborate with clients, engineers, and stakeholders to develop comprehensive project plans and timelines.
    • Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring competitive pricing and adherence to requirements.
    • Use MS Excel to prepare detailed cost breakdowns and analyses.
    • Develop and present bid proposals to clients and stakeholders.
    • Maintain and update a database of cost information for construction materials and labor rates.
  • Project Management
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned projects, maintaining clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders.
    • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation to ensure timely and on‑budget completion.
    • Track progress, monitor KPIs, and identify potential risks or deviations.
    • Review and approve subcontractor invoices and progress billings.
    • Manage the change order process, including negotiating and updating documentation.
    • Coordinate with field personnel and subcontractors to ensure safety, quality, and schedule compliance.
    • Conduct regular site inspections to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and building codes.
    • Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including contracts, permits, and change orders.
    • Participate in project meetings, offering insights on cost‑related matters and progress.
Core Competencies / Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3‑5 years of combined estimating and project management experience in civil, concrete, carpentry, and steel construction.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and associated costs.
  • Ability to manage multiple small‑to‑medium projects simultaneously.
  • High‑level proficiency in MS Excel for construction estimating.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and technical specifications.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills, capable of meeting deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Proactive approach to risk assessment and management.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to project sites within a 75‑mile radius of Gas City, IN.
  • Previous safety responsibility required – OSHA 10 or 30 certification is a plus.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment substance abuse test.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and navigate construction work areas.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to construction site hazards such as moving mechanical parts, heights, fumes, and varying weather conditions.
