About Our Episode Producer, Crime Junkie

The Episode Producer is responsible for producing video episodes of Crime Junkie for You Tube and the forthcoming Crime Junkie FAST streaming channel, while also supporting audio production through multimedia assets.

This role partners closely with reporters and show leadership from the earliest stages of story development—conceptualizing episodes for video and working in lock‑step with story teams throughout reporting and production. The Episode Producer ensures every episode is editorially strong, factually accurate, visually compelling, and aligned with Audiochuck’s ethical, victim‑centered approach to true crime storytelling.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead video development and production of assigned episodes from concept through final delivery
  • Collaborate with producer‑shooters and camera operators to create original visual elements that elevate storytelling
  • Partner with graphic designers to develop maps and motion graphics that enhance viewer understanding
  • Proactively source archival video and images to support investigative storytelling
  • Coordinate outreach to law enforcement, family members, and key sources for interviews and materials
  • Work with the legal team to submit FOIAs for case evidence, including body camera footage
  • Write, revise, and fact‑check episodes, ensuring accuracy, context, sensitivity, and narrative cohesion
  • Support host recording sessions by preparing scripts, providing editorial context, and monitoring consistency
  • Lead edit sessions, providing detailed notes and collaborating with editors on pacing, tone, and story flow
  • Ensure accuracy of spelling, punctuation, and grammar for all on‑screen text
  • Manage episode timelines to meet production calendars and delivery deadlines
  • Track milestones and proactively communicate progress, risks, and challenges to show leadership
  • Participate in editorial meetings and pitch sessions
  • Contribute to creative discussions around story framing, tone, and investigative approach
  • Utilize performance data to continually improve audience engagement and retention
What You Will Bring to the Table
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–5 years of experience in editorial production, podcasting, video production, or investigative storytelling
  • Strong narrative writing and storytelling skills with experience structuring longform content
  • Deep research skills and familiarity with public records and sourcing best practices
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • Proficiency with video editing workflows and tools (Avid and/or Premiere preferred), along with Wrike, Google Workspace, or similar platforms
  • Preferred:
    Experience in true crime, investigative reporting, or longform documentary storytelling
