Position Summary

The General Dentist will provide high-quality dental care to patients at the Damien Center Dental Clinic. This role focuses on delivering comprehensive dental services, including diagnostic, preventive, restorative, and therapeutic care, while ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment for all patients. The General Dentist will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to integrate oral health into the broader care continuum, promoting overall wellness for historically underserved populations.

This position is instrumental in advancing the Damien Center’s mission to improve access to dental care for individuals living with or at risk for HIV and others seeking a safe and affirming space for health services.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Perform thorough dental examinations and diagnostics, including reviewing medical and dental histories, conducting radiographic imaging, and assessing oral health status to create personalized treatment plans.
  • Provide routine dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and other preventive services to minimize the risk of oral health issues such as cavities, gum disease, and oral cancers.
  • Deliver high-quality restorative care, including fillings, crowns, bridges, and other procedures to restore functionality and aesthetics.
  • Perform extractions and minor oral surgeries as needed, ensuring patient comfort and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Address root canal therapies, gum disease treatments, and other specialized procedures to manage infections and preserve natural teeth whenever possible.
  • Provide complete and partial dentures, and other prosthetics, ensuring a tailored fit and natural appearance to enhance patients’ quality of life.
  • Educate patients on best practices for oral hygiene, the importance of routine dental visits, and the relationship between oral health and overall systemic health. Empower patients with knowledge to prevent dental issues and maintain optimal oral health.
  • Address urgent dental needs such as broken teeth, abscesses, or injuries with immediate interventions to alleviate pain and prevent further complications.
  • Create a welcoming and affirming environment for all patients, including those with diverse backgrounds, identities, and health conditions, such as people living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS.
  • Adhere strictly to infection prevention protocols, maintaining a sterile environment in compliance with OSHA and CDC standards to protect both patients and staff.
  • Leverage advanced dental technologies, such as digital imaging and electronic health records, to enhance diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes.
  • Partner with Damien Center’s interdisciplinary teams including medical, behavioral health, and pharmacy staff to address the holistic health needs of patients and integrate dental care seamlessly into broader treatment plans.
Education And/or Experience

Required

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited institution.
