The Junior High School Counselor provides academic, personal, social, and career development support to students in grades 6-8. The counselor works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, parents, and community partners to ensure that students are supported in achieving their fullest potential both inside and outside of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support
* Provide individual and group counseling for students addressing academic, personal, social, and emotional needs.
* Support students in developing problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
* Assist students with course selection, scheduling, and transitions between grade levels.
* Monitor academic progress and intervene with strategies to improve student achievement.
Academic & Career Guidance
* Provide guidance lessons on topics such as study skills, organization, goal setting, and career exploration.
* Facilitate programs that expose students to career pathways, college readiness, and workforce opportunities.
* Guide students in developing Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) and/or graduation pathways as appropriate.
Collaboration & Consultation
* Serve as a resource for teachers and staff in addressing student concerns and classroom behaviors.
* Partner with families to promote student growth and well-being.
* Collaborate with community agencies to provide additional resources and referrals for students and families.
School Climate & Leadership
* Promote a positive school climate by implementing prevention and intervention strategies.
* Lead initiatives that support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
* Participate in crisis response and provide support during emergencies.
* Contribute to school improvement planning and data-driven decision making.
Work Environment
* Full-time, 10-month position aligned with the school calendar.
* Duties performed in classrooms, counseling offices, and throughout the school setting.
