Full‑Time, 9‑Month, Non‑Tenure Track (Potential 1‑Year Renewal)

The University of Indianapolis invites applications for a nine‑month, non‑tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Professional Writing with a specialization in Editing and Publishing, beginning August 2026.

Housed in the Shaheen College of Arts & Sciences, the English Department seeks a colleague with graduate‑level training in editing and publishing who can contribute to and support our Creative Writing, Editing, and Publishing major. This position fills a need for disciplinary expertise in introduction to college writing, book publishing, instructional design, and contemporary professional writing practices.

The successful candidate will teach a 24‑credit load across undergraduate and graduate courses, including book editing and publishing, instructional design, and professional writing. As with all department faculty, the candidate will also teach first‑year writing courses.

The English Department offers undergraduate majors in Creative Writing, Editing, and Publishing and in Literary Studies; an M.A. in English; multiple minors; and concentrations in writing and teaching English language learners. Faculty regularly teach courses for the university’s general education curriculum and are expected to contribute to departmental and university service, as well as maintain an active scholarly and/or professional agenda.

Experience

Successful candidates shall show expertise in instructional design and editing/publishing and have a successful teaching record.

Education

Terminal degree in English (PhD or MFA) or related field. Must demonstrate 18 credit hours of graduate‑level English courses.
