Undergraduate Nursing Clinical Adjunct Instructor
The School of Nursing at the University of Indianapolis is seeking registered nurses (RNs) interested in educating nursing students in its undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs.
Undergraduate nursing clinical adjuncts may provide instruction to nursing students in the laboratory, simulation, hospital, community, and/or nursing home clinical settings and, if interested, may have the opportunity to teach didactic/lecture content under the direction and support of course faculty.
Work hours may vary and include day and evening instructional times as well as in-person and virtual instructional opportunities across summer, fall, and winter semesters. This is a contracted, part-time/as needed or temporary position. Those hired will be part of the pool of undergraduate nursing clinical adjuncts and will be offered work based on course enrollments and program needs each semester.
Applications will be periodically reviewed based on program needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least eighteen (18) months of experience as an RN; evidence of expertise appropriate to the teaching specialty areas of fundamental nursing skills, pediatrics, obstetrics, psychiatric, geriatric, critical care, and/or medical-surgical.
- Clinical experience needed to function effectively and safely in the area of assigned responsibility; ability to meet health requirements if teaching in clinical settings.
- Prior college or university teaching experience preferred.
- Pediatric and/or psychiatric nursing practice specialty preferred for the academic year .
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is required;
Master’s in Nursing or higher degree preferred.
- Criminal history and background check clearance; clear drug screen upon hire.
- Evidence of current American Heart Association CPR training.
- Current unencumbered and valid RN license in the state of Indiana.
- RN compact license (required only if providing instruction in the Accelerated BSN-Distance program).
- May be required to provide TB test results, evidence of vaccinations, etc. depending on instruction setting.
We strive to have 8 nursing students or less in a clinical group; the maximum number of nursing students in a clinical group is 10.
Primary Duties- Adhere to the University of Indianapolis and School of Nursing policies, procedures, and rules as outlined in the School of Nursing Student Handbook and Faculty Handbook.
- Attend required undergraduate nursing clinical adjunct orientation before the start of each semester.
- Attend required clinical agency orientation, if applicable.
- Attend workshops on D2L (Brightspace) learning management system, if applicable.
- Instruct and evaluate nursing students in the laboratory, simulation, and/or clinical settings.
- Supervise and maintain equipment and lab space, if teaching in the Clinical Learning Center.
- Actively engage with nursing students throughout the instructional period e.g., asking questions, providing guidance, coaching on skills.
- Communicate professionally and often with course faculty, assigned students, and clinical personnel (include preceptors).
- Grade and provide meaningful feedback on clinical paperwork according to rubrics, if applicable.
- Grade and provide meaningful feedback on assigned lab/simulation assignments or skills validations, if applicable.
- Evaluate student learning and performance using a standard evaluation tool provided by the School of Nursing (may occur each clinical day, at midterm, and/or at final).
- Participate in end-of-course program reports and evaluations with the course lead faculty.
- Follow the guidance and direction of course lead faculty and/or supervisor(s).
- Demonstrate respectful, ethical, responsible behavior.
- Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Other duties, including special projects or didactic/lecture teaching as assigned.
