Location: Perry Meridian High School
Working under the supervision of teachers, the teacher aide/assistant is an integral part of the total instructional program. Services performed include instructional, clerical, supervisory, and behavior management duties to support classroom teachers. Aides/assistants are expected to implement programming as directed by classroom teachers, administrators, or the Case Conference Committee and to follow the Bylaws and Policies of Special Education, the assigned school, and the school corporation.
EssentialJob Functions
- Develop positive, respectful relationships with students and staff.
- Work effectively in an inclusive environment with students and staff.
- Be punctual, professional in manner and speech, and notify co‑workers and building administration prior to necessary absences.
- Collate and share information with the teacher of record.
- Assist students with organizational skills, staying on task, and reviewing/re‑teaching skills.
- Support classroom teachers with daily duties.
- Facilitate small group instruction.
- Complete clerical duties assigned by the teacher.
- Supervise student behavior and activities.
- Lift and move students.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, calculators, and telephone.
Travel RequirementsTravel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Pay Rate$15.75 per hour.
Work Schedule6.5 hours per day, 182 days per year.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read and write.
- Willingness to help special‑needs children.
- Effective human relations skills that include a calm, patient personality.

- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.
- Ability to carry 25 pounds.
- Ability to work at a desk, conference table, or in meetings of various configurations.
- Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws, codes, rules, and policies and other printed matter.
- Ability to communicate so others will clearly understand a normal conversation.
