Welcome to the home of LEADERS

Mission:
Culver educates its students for leadership and responsible citizenship in society by developing and nurturing the whole individual, mind, spirit, and body, through integrated programs that emphasize the cultivation of character.

Culver Academies is a private boarding school located on the shore of Lake Maxinkuckee, Indiana. It encompasses 1,800 acres of green hills and woodlands, featuring a historic collegiate‑style campus with Gothic architecture. The campus offers a serene setting with easy access to large cities such as South Bend, Chicago, and Indianapolis.

Culver Summer School & Camps Overview

Founded in 1902, the Culver Summer Schools & Camps (CSSC) program is a fun‑filled, naturally beautiful setting on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee. Each summer, nearly 1,400 young people from around the world, ages 7‑17, develop positive self‑esteem through accomplishment and self‑discipline in a high‑challenge, high‑support environment for learning leadership skills.

CSSC employs 450 dedicated professionals each summer with an annual staff retention rate of 65%. Staff experience meaningful connections while making a positive and lasting difference in children’s lives.

Our Programs Include

  • Junior Woodcraft Camp (Ages 7‑9):
    June 10‑13, 2026
    – a four‑day camp for approximately 180 boys and girls, ages 7‑9. The program mirrors the structure of the six‑week Woodcraft Camp with activity rotations, cabin/unit games, evening activities, and leadership opportunities, supported by a 5‑to‑1 staff‑to‑camper ratio.
  • Woodcraft Camp (Ages 9‑14):
    June 19‑August 2, 2025
    – a six‑week, all‑activity camp designed for 732 children, ages 9‑14, featuring over 80 electives and a wide range of athletic and military activities to build confidence and leadership skills.
  • Upper School (Ages 14‑17):
    June 20‑August 2, 2026
    – a six‑week leadership development program with a military organizational structure that instills followership and leadership over three summers. Boys choose between Naval School, School of Horsemanship, or Aviation School; girls participate in equivalent classes.
  • Mandatory one‑week summer staff orientation (June 14‑19, 2026) precedes Woodcraft Camp and Upper School. Some roles may require additional orientation, such as naval staff or lifeguards with certification.

Summer Employment Requirements

  • Graduate of high school or equivalent, at least 18 years of age (one year of college highly preferred).
  • Desire and ability to work with children/teenagers.
  • Demonstrate honesty, self‑discipline, consideration, cooperation, and strong leadership skills at all times.
  • Efficient communicator and positive role model.
  • Maintain a positive and respectful attitude toward coworkers, campers/students, and parents.
  • Know and enforce the Rules and Regulations, safety protocols, and procedures.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with all campers/students and staff.
  • Consistently report to work on time in proper attire, including grooming, to perform assigned duties.
  • Accept supervision and guidance through evaluations and feedback.
  • Be in good health, vitality, and physical stamina.

Waterski Staff

Under the direction of the Waterfront Director, Waterski staff supervise and implement water‑ski instruction. All staff maintain the safety of campers/students and staff, ensuring the program runs safely and efficiently. Waterski staff instruct children of all ages and abilities Monday‑Friday from approximately 8:30 am to 4 pm. Requirements: 21 years or older, valid U.S. driver’s license;
Indiana Boater’s license preferred. Training is provided on site at no cost.

International Staff

CSSC is a culturally diverse community; 30 % of our camper/student population comes from outside the United States. We partner with IENA for J‑1 visas for qualifying international staff. International staff are subject to the terms outlined in their placement agreement;
Culver does not guarantee J‑1 visas.

Internships

Some summer staff pursue school‑required internships during their employment. Staff interested in an internship should contact summer jobs with their full name, college/university, desired internship area, and relevant information.
