Overview
UNIVERSITY COLLEGE (IN-UCOL-IUINA). The Student Success Advisor reports to the Director of the cluster team on which they serve. Academic and Career Development is part of Campus Career and Advising Services in University College. University College is one of 3 units in the Division of Undergraduate Education. The Office of Academic and Career Development (ACD) facilitates University College students' academic and career success by providing programs and services that engage students in exploring and committing to educational and career goals, developing and implementing meaningful academic plans, transitioning into degree-granting schools, and translating learning to the world of work.
ACD student success advisors and career consultants work in clusters of majors with similar themes and interests to help students explore their interests, choose a major, and create a plan to achieve their goals. University College provides a common gateway to the academic programs available to entering students. Programs and services offered by University College focus on assisting students with the development of the knowledge and skills needed for success in the collegiate environment, including academic advising, academic support, career planning, peer mentoring, and new student orientation.
University College also offers college readiness programs that focus on helping high school students to become college bound. The Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) serves as the catalyst for enhancing the quality of the undergraduate student experience while promoting on-time graduation for all undergraduate students at IU Indianapolis. 3 units report up to the Division:
University College, Honors College and the Institute for Engaged Learning.
This position will be part of the Health and Life Sciences team and support students pursuing undergraduate majors in the health and life sciences.
Department - Specific Responsibilities- Provides academic and career advising to undergraduate University College students, within the assigned cluster team.
- Reviews student records to inform advising for academic progress, course recommendations, career planning, and resource referrals.
- Collaborates with team to develop special programming and resources to meet unique cluster needs.
- Provides support to at-risk students. Meet with students by appointments and drop-in, through individual and group formats.
- Participates in First Year Seminars as part of the instructional team. Participate in New Student Orientation, committees and task forces as assigned.
- Works as part of a team to provide individual and group integrated academic and career advising to undergraduate University College students, within the assigned cluster team.
- Advises and guides students through the major and career decision making process and support academic and career planning. Plan for academic, co-curricular and experiential learning.
- Engages students in goal setting processes designed to clarify major declaration, plans of study, admission to degree granting school of choice, and career preparation and planning.
- Collaborates with Summer Bridge and First Year Seminar instructional teams to provide in-class presentations, workshops and resources that align with course objectives.
- Collaborates with cluster team to provide workshops for orientation procedures, admission to an academic school, reinstatement, career planning, and other types of workshops that may be needed to assist students.
- Works with faculty, staff, and mentors to provide support to at-risk students. Facilitate student use of the various campus support services and resources.
- Reviews, prepares, and maintains student records.
- Utilizes technology and various early alert systems to monitor student progress and make appropriate recommendations.
- Maintains communications with assigned advisees and cluster teammates.
- Assists assigned cluster team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, programs, events, and resources related to student success.
