Ongoing observations and feedback during the assignment.
Purpose of the Position:
To provide continuity in the educational experience of students by effectively delivering lesson plans and managing classroom activities in the absence of the regular teacher.
Minimum Requirements:
The following are the qualifications and minimum requirements necessary for a person to perform this role:
* High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education preferred.
* Completion of required substitute teacher training and certification.
* Strong communication and classroom management skills.
* Ability to adapt to various teaching environments and grade levels.
Essential Functions of the Position:
The following functions are essential to the successful performance of this role:
* Follow and implement lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, ensuring that learning objectives are met.
* Maintain a positive and structured classroom environment conducive to learning.
* Manage student behavior effectively, addressing any issues in accordance with school policies.
* Take attendance and report any student absences or issues to the appropriate school personnel.
* Provide instruction and support to students in understanding the material, answering questions, and guiding classroom activities.
* Supervise students during transitions, recess, lunch, and other non-classroom activities as required.
* Communicate with the regular teacher (if possible) or other staff to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of instruction.
* Complete any necessary administrative tasks, such as grading or recording assignments, as directed.
Secondary Functions of the Position:
The following functions, while important and necessary, are secondary to the successful performance of this position:
* Assist with school-wide events, assemblies, or other activities as needed.
* Perform additional duties as directed by the Building Principal or school administration.
Knowledge of:
* Basic principles of classroom management and instructional techniques.
* School policies, procedures, and expectations for student behavior.
* The curriculum and learning objectives of the assigned grade level or subject.
Ability to:
* Quickly adapt to different classroom settings and grade levels.
* Implement lesson plans effectively and manage classroom activities.
* Handle student behavior issues with tact and professionalism.
* Communicate clearly and concisely with students, staff, and parents as needed.
* Maintain a positive and supportive relationship with students and school staff.
Equipment Used:
* Classroom technology (computers, projectors, smart boards).
* General classroom supplies (whiteboards, books, etc.).
Place Where Work is Performed:
* Assigned classroom within the school building.
Physical Demands:
* Must be able to stand, walk, and move around the classroom for extended periods.
* Must be able to hear and speak clearly to instruct and communicate with students.
* Must be able to lift and carry classroom materials as needed.
