The University of Notre Dame's Department of Political Science and the Keough School of Global Affairs are searching for faculty members who specialize in the empirical study of democracy. We expect the appointment to be at the level of Full Professor, but we will consider applications from advanced Associate Professors. We define the study of democracy broadly as research on political regimes and regime change, challenges to democratic institutions, and the study of political behavior.
Applicants should have a research agenda that addresses key questions related to democracy, either inside or outside the United States, or both. Successful candidates will also be capable of excellent teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Position duties include research, teaching, and service.
A PhD is required in political science, any subfield of political science, other social science disciplines, or related fields. This search is conducted under the auspices of the Notre Dame Democracy Initiative, a significant investment from the Provost’s office that will provide multiple faculty lines and substantial research support.
The University of Notre Dame seeks to attract, develop, and retain the highest quality faculty, staff and administration. The University is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or age in employment. Moreover, Notre Dame prohibits discrimination against veterans or disabled qualified individuals, and complies with 41 CFR 60-741.5(a) and 41 CFR 60-300.5(a).
We strongly encourage applications from candidates attracted to a university with a Catholic identity.
