Culver Summer School & Camps OverviewFounded in 1902, the CSSC program is a fun‑filled summer experience on 1,800 acres, hosting approximately 1,400 young people ages 7‑17 each year. The program provides high‑challenge, high‑support learning environments that develop confidence, leadership, and self‑esteem.
Our Programs Junior Woodcraft Camp (Ages 7‑9):June 10‑13, 2026
A four‑day camp that introduces participants to a six‑week structure similar to the main Woodcraft Camp. Staff‑to‑camper ratio of 5‑to‑1 ensures safety and leadership opportunities.
Woodcraft Camp (Ages 9‑14):June 19‑August 2, 2026
A six‑week, all‑activity camp for 732 children, featuring over 80 electives and experiential learning that builds confidence and teamwork.
Upper School (Ages 14‑17):June 19‑August 2, 2026
A six‑week leadership development program that structures followership and leadership phases. Students choose among Naval School, Horse School, or Aviation School.
- Mandatory one‑week summer staff orientation runs June 13‑19, 2026. Some roles, such as naval staff or lifeguards, require additional training.
All staff, whether in Junior Woodcraft, Woodcraft Camp, or Upper School, are responsible for the safety and wellbeing of campers. Culver evaluates applicants based on education, experience, and fit for each role. Minimum expectations include:
- Graduate of high school or equivalent, at least 18 years old (≥1 year of college preferred).
- Desire and ability to work with children and teenagers.
- Demonstrate honesty, self‑discipline, consideration, cooperation, and strong leadership skills.
- Efficient communicator and positive role model.
- Maintain a positive, respectful attitude toward coworkers, campers, and parents.
- Know and enforce rules, regulations, safety protocols, and procedures.
- Maintain professional boundaries with all campers and staff.
- Consistently report to work on time and in proper attire, including grooming.
- Accept supervision and guidance in evaluations and feedback.
- Be in good health, vigor, and physical stamina.
Must consistently demonstrate solid sailing knowledge and skills. Primary responsibilities include safe, enjoyable, and effective implementation of the Naval School Curriculum and duties. Naval staff teach three double‑period classes (90 minutes) Monday through Friday, coach and assess students, and supervise competitions. Must hold a valid U.S. Driver’s License; U.S. Sailing certification preferred.
International StaffCulver partners with IENA for J‑1 visas for qualifying international staff. International staff are subject to the terms of their placement agency, and visa sponsorship is not guaranteed.
InternshipsSummer staff may pursue school‑required internships. Interested staff should contact summer jobs with full name, college, and area of interest.
