- Associate’s or Library Technical Assistant Degree
- Indiana State Librarian Certificate 5 – Professional Assistant; or working towards certification
- Have one year of experience
- Be available to work day, evening, and weekend hours - including at least 6 Sundays per year.
- Be able to navigate basic computer functions, including Microsoft Word, Excel, internet browsing.
- Be bilingual (preferred but not required).
- Assists patrons with various library services, including finding library materials, recommending titles, locating library materials at other branches, placing requests and referring to other community resources.
- Provides quick reference and in-depth reference assistance and research to patrons, referring certain subject-specific reference questions to Librarians assigned to those collections.
- Provides assistance and instruction to patrons in using computers, IndyPL website, downloadable services, databases, online catalog, printers and other equipment. Troubleshoots a wide variety of technical issues with computers, mobile devices, digital services and other office equipment.
- Develops, promotes, and presents programming both within the branch and in the community served.
- Assists with collection management activities including wanding, CollectionHQ reports, weeding and general maintenance as assigned. Sorts and shelves materials as needed. Evaluates materials for condition and usefulness and discards accordingly.
- Creates and maintains displays and promotional materials as needed.
- Records and reports statistics related to tasks including reference assistance, use of materials, program attendance and community contacts.
- Informs patrons of library policies and procedures; observes patron activity.
- Creates monthly and quarterly book reviews and lists for Bibliocommons.
- Able to work the normally scheduled work time for this position.
- Able to cope with daily job-related stress.
