Qualifications- A master’s degree or higher, with a major in educational administration.
- A valid state certificate to practice as a school principal.
- Experience in public school administration and/or supervision.
- At least two years of successful experience as a classroom teacher.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Assists the principal in providing instructional leadership to staff including: curriculum planning, review and implementation; and professional development. To make a positive impact on student learning and to increase student achievement.
Performance Responsibilities- Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school that focuses on the needs of each child.
- Assist in the instructional leadership of curriculum, instruction and assessment.
- Handles student discipline and attendance.
- Monitors the special education program, including but not limited to attending case conferences and special education issues.
- Observes, supervises, and evaluates teachers in the teaching process.
- Assists in the planning, organization, and implementation of all school activities.
- Assists with implementing programs to meet specific needs of the school.
- Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs; to interpret Board policies and administrative directives; and to discuss and resolve individual student problems.
- Analyze, interpret and organize data to support results-based decisions regarding curriculum, instruction and professional development.
- Administer special programs such as summer school, remediation, RTI and homebound instruction.
- Work collaboratively with the curriculum and instruction team, principals, department chairpersons, and teachers.
- Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
- Assists in the preparation of state reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration.
- Participates in building level meetings and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.
- Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.
- Works with various members of the central administrative staff on school problems that involve student transportation, and special services for students.
- Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent, superintendent designee, or principal.
