Summary
:
The K-12 school-based mental health resources for individual students, ensuring their academic, social, emotional, and/or behavioral needs are met in a timely and efficient manner to promote growth in all areas.

This is a GRANT-FUNDED position.


* This U.S Department of Education School-Based Mental Health Grant position is part of a multi-year, $2.9 million grant. Contract extension will be based upon satisfactory performance and continued funding of the grant.

Experience & Qualifications
  • Master's or advanced degree in educational administration, social work, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years as a teacher or student services provider in a school-based setting
  • Must be student service-focused during times of high stress
  • Be prepared to invest in building meaningful and trusting relationships with students, staff members, and families
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a very fast-paced environment
  • Must possess strong leadership and communication skills

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Support & Coordination
  • Serve as a point of contact for students, parents, service providers, and teachers.
  • Oversee the coordination of school-based mental health teams to serve students on an individual case basis to address social, emotional, and/or behavioral needs for academic progress.
  • Collaborate with the schools’ Mental Health Teams to develop a system that fosters student strength and promotes positive social and emotional growth within an educational environment.
  • Maintain grant budgets in coordination with the Assistant Superintendent and Director of Budgets and Finances.
  • Serve as the primary mental health counselor for students at The Edge.
  • Serve as the guidance counselor for the Edgewood Virtual Academy.
  • Interact with students, develop strong relationships, and provide administrative or personal guidance, or both.
  • Act as coordinator for student referrals for all mental health services available in the schools.
  • Coordinate with the team to determine the most effective intervention for a student based on their immediate needs and current data.
  • Provide training to Mental Health Teams to make appropriate decisions regarding changes in intervention for students.
  • Coordinate responses to urgent incidents involving student behavior. The coordinator can not and will not be available to respond to student behavior incidents in the building, so training with teams is critical.
  • Work as a team member with teachers, counselors, school social workers, and other appropriate personnel to establish positive student behavior by developing appropriate strategies tailored to individual students.
  • Assume an advocacy role for the student when access to needed services is impeded or made difficult.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff to develop student behavior objectives, goals, and plans, as well as methods to monitor conduct.
  • Consult with staff to obtain information and advice on student behavior problems.
  • Confer regularly with parents/guardians regarding student behavior, academic, and social-emotional issues.
  • Assess and defuse situations using conflict resolution and management techniques.
  • Network and coordinate with health and social services departments, providers, schools, and potential service recipients to facilitate access to services and minimize structural and psychological barriers.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all interventions and results.
  • Review incident reports daily and monitor activity throughout the instructional day to maintain a safe environment for students and staff.
  • Maintain student case reports and developmental histories.
Additional Programs
  • Serve as the McKinney-Vento coordinator for the district
Training & Development
  • Provide training and updates for all staff as needed on any aspect of school-wide programs.
  • Prepare materials for seminars and workshops.
Administrative & Evaluation
  • Act as primary evaluator for all mental health staff members including:
  • Social workers
  • Counselors
  • School psychologists
  • Act as a secondary evaluator for building level staff as requested by building level Administrators.
  • Attend Administrative Cabinet meetings for Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corporation.
  • Actively participate in building-wide student services meetings, collaborative planning, and professional development.
  • Use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendars, e-mail, and database software in performing work assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
