Job Title
IT Tutor PT – Indianapolis – Salary: $18.00 per hour – Part‑time – Reports to Math and Science Center Assistant Director
Job OverviewWe are an open‑access community college that fuels Indiana’s economy and emphasizes inclusive, student‑centered learning. This role provides in‑person and virtual tutoring for School of Information Technology (IT) courses.
Responsibilities- Tutor students one‑on‑one or in small groups in‑person and virtually
- Lead or assist with group study sessions and workshops
- Track and document student interactions for outcome reporting
- Apply problem‑solving skills to address student questions effectively
- Collaborate with staff and other tutors to support student success initiatives
- Promote a safe, friendly, and positive learning environment
Education and Experience
- Completed and excelled in foundational IT courses
- Practical tutoring, teaching, or coaching experience in IT content preferred
Required Skills and Competencies
- Subject Matter Expertise
:
Proficiency in introductory School of IT course content (Informatics and Data Visualization;
Database Management and SQL;
Software Development including Python, C++, C#, Java and JavaScript; IT Support Fundamentals; Network Fundamentals and Infrastructure) - Tutoring & Problem‑Solving Skills
:
Ability to think critically, identify student concerns, and address root challenges; patience and structured problem solving - Communication
:
Strong oral and written communication; ability to articulate ideas clearly, provide non‑judgmental feedback, and build rapport - Learning Environment Management
:
Experience collaborating with diverse teams; managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment; maintaining an inclusive, clean, student‑centered space - Technology Proficiency
:
Comfortable with basic computer operations, Zoom and other virtual instruction tools, learning platforms (e.g., Canvas), Microsoft Suite, Google Suite - Organizational & Professional Skills
:
Accurate record‑keeping for reporting; professional behavior; reliable, ethical conduct
- Completed advanced (200+ level) IT coursework
- Familiarity with tutoring best practices
- Experience teaching or tutoring IT content at secondary or college level, customer service, or similar environments
- Positive attitude of approachability and adaptability
