Job DescriptionThe Student Attendance Specialist ensures that school age children are attending school regularly by investigating causes of unexcused or excessive absences, communicating with families and assisting them in problem‑solving, issuing attendance‑based warnings, and helping to represent the school if cases go to court.
Responsibilities- Coordinates school-wide attendance efforts and absenteeism prevention programming, educating families and intervening to address underlying causes.
- Works with teachers to monitor student adherence to attendance policies.
- Communicates with students and families via email, phone, and auto‑dial notices to targeted student populations.
- Recommends families for truancy intervention meetings and attends meetings with school administrators.
- Ensures state compliance guidelines are met for student attendance, progress, and system logins.
- Ensures school policy and state requirements regarding attendance withdrawals are met.
- Produces attendance/truancy reports for school, county, and state as required.
- Works with the Student Support Team to assist students where referral to service agencies is necessary.
- Develops individualized action plans with families and teachers to increase attendance and engagement.
- Collaborates with Student Support Administrator, Head of School and local school board to improve attendance procedures.
- Prevents juvenile delinquency through engagement with families and student support staff.
- Develops and implements educational workshops on absenteeism for staff and families.
- Assists staff on projects related to student attendance and truancy.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of truancy experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to pass required background check.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of state school attendance laws and related K‑12 education laws.
- Knowledge of state court procedures regarding truancy.
- Familiarity with online learning environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
- Three (3) years of experience working with families in a similar capacity, enrollment or truancy role.
- Post‑secondary degree, especially in Education, Counseling, Human Services or related field.
