Job Description
The University of Indianapolis invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in K-6 Literacy Education. This full‑time, nine‑month appointment will begin in the 2026‑2027 school year and is located in the School of Education.
Responsibilities- Teach theoretical knowledge and plan and supervise students in practical classroom experiences for the Elementary Education, Transition to Teaching, and Literacy Specialists Master’s programs.
- Deliver courses in person, in clinical settings, online, and during evenings or weekends as required.
- Engage with faculty, students, and school and community partners to promote creativity, collegiality, and innovation.
- Maintain an active scholarly research agenda, including publications and presentations.
- Earned doctorate in Literacy Education, or earned master’s degree with specialized or advanced training in literacy instruction.
- Minimum three years of teaching literacy in an elementary school setting.
- Strong emphasis on early elementary literacy, the Science of Reading, and instruction of linguistically and culturally diverse students.
- Experience teaching in hybrid and online university‑level environments is preferred.
- Elementary Teaching License
- Science of Reading Training
- International Dyslexia Association KPEERI Credential (preferred)
- Indiana Early Literacy License (preferred)
- Follow guidance and direction of university supervisors.
- Demonstrate respectful, ethical, and responsible behavior.
- Abide by university policies, procedures, and rules.
- Perform employee responsibilities as detailed in handbooks and policies.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Complete additional duties, including special projects, as requested.
- Reading specialist experience.
- Teaching experience at the university level in hybrid and online formats.
- Experience teaching in linguistically and culturally diverse K‑6 schools.
- Understanding of or experience with children with reading difficulties or disabilities.
- Experience with university‑level teaching, research, and service.
