Visiting Assistant Professor in K-6 Literacy Education

Job Description

The University of Indianapolis invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in K-6 Literacy Education. This full‑time, nine‑month appointment will begin in the 2026‑2027 school year and is located in the School of Education.

• Teach theoretical knowledge and plan and supervise students in practical classroom experiences for the Elementary Education, Transition to Teaching, and Literacy Specialists Master’s programs.
• Deliver courses in person, in clinical settings, online, and during evenings or weekends as required.
• Engage with faculty, students, and school and community partners to promote creativity, collegiality, and innovation.
• Maintain an active scholarly research agenda, including publications and presentations.

• Earned doctorate in Literacy Education, or earned master’s degree with specialized or advanced training in literacy instruction.
• Minimum three years of teaching literacy in an elementary school setting.
• Strong emphasis on early elementary literacy, the Science of Reading, and instruction of linguistically and culturally diverse students.
• Experience teaching in hybrid and online university‑level environments is preferred.

• Elementary Teaching License
• Science of Reading Training
• International Dyslexia Association KPEERI Credential (preferred)
• Indiana Early Literacy License (preferred)

• Follow guidance and direction of university supervisors.
• Demonstrate respectful, ethical, and responsible behavior.

• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
• Complete additional duties, including special projects, as requested.

• Reading specialist experience.
• Teaching experience at the university level in hybrid and online formats.
• Experience teaching in linguistically and culturally diverse K‑6 schools.
• Understanding of or experience with children with reading difficulties or disabilities.
• Experience with university‑level teaching, research, and service.
