Position: Honors Student Support Specialist (Student Support Specialist)
Location: Indianapolis

Overview

Serves as Honors Student Support Specialist to Herbert Presidential Scholars and Chancellors Scholars, supplying academic progress, enrollment, and retention oversight to meet scholarship requirements that complements major-specific advising in the schools. Serves as Student Support Specialist for Honors Program students in participating school honors programs. Participates in the development, implementation, and assessment of high impact co- and extra-curricular programming including leadership programming.

Serves as Honors liaison for the Honors LLC and as advisor for College leadership councils.

Responsibilities
  • Work directly with students to provide support and guidance for honors coursework and honors contracts within the scholars  curriculum. Assist students in accessing relevant resources to support student success efforts of the Honors College.
  • Monitor scholarship compliance each semester.
  • Work with other honors staff to collect, analyze and report data on program effectiveness and scholar progress on a semester basis.
  • Develop and implement co- and extra-curricular activities for honors scholars in the area of leadership activities.
  • Develop and implement co- and extra-curricular programming throughout the year that complements other scholarship programming in the College, enriches academic programs, helps with retention, and honors the intent of the scholarship donors. Focus on developing and coordinating community building and leadership opportunities for Presidential scholarship cohort and honors scholars and student leaders in College organizations.
  • Represent the College in selected campus committees.
  • Participate in other recruiting, student support, community-building, and programming activities for the College.
  • Participate in the review of applicants and selection of candidates for on-campus scholarship interviews.
  • Participate in recruitment functions and events to promote the Honors College.
  • Other duties as needed.
Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor s degree in education, public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, business, or related field.

Preferred

  • Master s degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field.

Work Experience

  • 2 years in student services, higher education, social work, counseling, law, or related field.

Additional Information

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Salary: $45,000 - 50,000. Salary based on education and experience.
