POSITION OBJECTIVE

The major responsibility of the position is to provide additional support to the classroom teacher by providing individual students focused grade level academic assistance.

QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS

EDUCATIONAL

AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

H.S. Diploma is required. Associate’s or higher in education or related area of study preferred.

  • Collaborate more directly with the teacher on instructional delivery

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Frequent standing and walking for extended periods (often 6–8 hours daily). Regular transitioning between sitting, standing, kneeling, and crouching to work at student level. Ability to move quickly across classroom and school settings to supervise students. Occasional lifting of up to 25–30 pounds (e.g., instructional materials, classroom supplies, student items). Assisting young students when necessary (e.g., guiding, steadying). Frequent use of hands for writing, typing, manipulating instructional materials, and technology.

Operating classroom equipment (computers, projectors, printers, smart boards). Visual acuity for monitoring student behavior, reading student work, and using screens. Ability to respond to auditory cues in a potentially noisy environment. Sustained energy to manage instructional delivery, classroom management, and student engagement throughout the school day.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Indoor, climate‑controlled classrooms with desks. Frequent exposure to moderate noise levels due to active student participation. Continuous, direct interaction with children. Structured daily schedule with defined instructional blocks, transitions, and supervision duties. Monitoring students in multiple settings: classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and during arrival/dismissal. Outdoor supervision in varying weather conditions. Regular interaction with colleagues, administrators, and support staff. Responsibility for maintaining a safe and orderly classroom environment.

10‑month, follows the academic calendar, Mon‑Fri, 7:15‑3:30
