SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Teaches elementary school students academic, social and motor skills in the public school setting. Teachers will have excellent organization and communication skills, and hold the philosophy that “all children can and will learn.”
QUALIFICATIONS- Education: Bachelor’s Degree required;
Master’s Degree preferred. - License: Must hold a valid Indiana State Teacher’s License in Elementary Education (K-6).
- Highly Qualified: Must be deemed Highly Qualified by the Indiana Department of Education.
- Demonstrate a high level of effectiveness.
- Have the courage and desire to establish community outreach programs.
- Collaborate with administration, the Special Education Department, and all staff during structured teacher planning time, team building, etc.
- Prepare rigorous, engaging lessons and other instructional materials to meet the individual needs of all students.
- Delineate evidence‑based instructional strategies and regularly assess students’ learning.
- Post assignments and input real‑time data on IPS On‑Line weekly, contact parents weekly, and arrange parent/teacher conferences after each grading period.
- Use a variety of instructional methods and materials.
- Administer frequent assessments, analyze data, and adjust instruction.
- Encourage parent involvement in the educational process.
- Seek and use community resources to enhance the instructional program.
- Maintain a safe classroom environment on the playground.
- Resolve problems promptly with reasoning, focusing on conflict resolution.
- Participate in all staff and curriculum‑development workshops and professional reading groups, sometimes held during summer or outside the instructional day.
- Respond promptly to customer needs and solicit feedback.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; present information in one‑on‑one, small group, and large group situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; compute rates, ratios, and percentages; draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITYApply common‑sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions; deal with problems involving few concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMust hold a valid Indiana State Teacher’s License in Elementary Education (P‑3 or P‑6). Must hold a Montessori Teaching Certificate or be willing to obtain one.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSRequires regular sitting, using hands, talking, hearing; standing, walking, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds (sometimes up to 50 pounds). Vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
WORK ENVIRONMENTOccasional exposure to wet, humid conditions and outdoor weather; noise level usually moderate.
