Job Responsibilities
- Instruction: Deliver assigned classes using pedagogy and technology that best support student learning, adhering to college loading policy, course objectives, and program learning outcomes.
- Curriculum Development: Develop and maintain curriculum and support course materials to further course objectives and program learning outcomes.
- Student Records: Maintain student records, attendance, grades, and other documentation as required.
- Classroom Management: Manage a classroom environment conducive to student learning and in adherence to federal, state, and college safety standards and practices.
- Learning Outcomes: Facilitate student achievement of expected program learning outcomes.
- Learning Management System: Use a Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas) to facilitate teaching, learning, assessment, and communication.
- Modality: Teach in multiple modalities (traditional, virtual, online).
- Innovative Techniques: Develop and utilize innovative techniques in the classroom to reach students at various pre‑requisite knowledge levels.
- Retention & Student Success:
- Provide academic‑related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.
- Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions, tutoring, and referrals to appropriate college resources.
- Maintain posted office hours and student engagement hours as per regional expectations and faculty loading policy.
- Promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.
- Professional Development:
- Participate in professional development activities, scheduled training, onsite industry exposure, and self‑study to advance instructional and technical skills.
- Participate in scholarly activities related to the discipline/focus, in fulfillment of annual performance plans and as required for certification and licensure.
- Stay current in contemporary pedagogy, digital technology, and related tools that best support student learning.
- Community Relations & Business Outreach:
- Participate in community service activities on behalf of the college to advance relationships within the service area.
- Develop community/industry/business contacts to advance college relationships.
- Institutional Support:
- Provide institutional support as requested, including participation on committees, task forces, projects related to accreditation and grants.
- Support and engage with Corporate College and Development and others as needed.
- Attend commencement and participate as assigned by regional administration.
- Participate in college/regional/campus‑wide meetings, departmental meetings, career service and alumni activities.
- Support department chair in program management activities and adhere to college and regional academic policies.
A qualified faculty member in mathematics meets the discipline standard through one of two routes:
- Earned a master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in mathematics;
- Earned a master’s or higher degree in any field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in mathematics‑related courses.
Preferred: 2+ years experience teaching at the secondary or post-secondary level.
