The College of Science at the University of Notre Dame is seeking an experienced Academic Advisor to provide exceptional academic guidance and holistic support to undergraduate students. Working closely with faculty, department leadership, and College staff, the Academic Advisor serves as a trusted partner in helping students navigate their academic journey, achieve their educational goals, and engage fully in the intellectual life of the University.
This position plays a central role in the College's advising model, supporting approximately 200 to 250 undergraduate students annually through individual advising appointments, small group sessions, and informal mentoring opportunities. The Academic Advisor encourages students to develop intellectual curiosity, integrative thinking, sound decision making, and increasing independence while fostering a welcoming and student-centered advising experience.
The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty, campus partners, and administrative offices to ensure students receive accurate guidance on academic policies, degree requirements, and University resources while contributing to initiatives that enhance student success and engagement.
Key Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive academic advising to approximately 200 to 250 undergraduate students within the College of Science through individual appointments, group advising sessions, and ongoing student engagement.
- Guide students in academic planning, course selection, degree progress, major exploration, and University policies while promoting critical thinking, personal responsibility, and informed decision‑making.
- Support prospective, incoming, and current students through recruitment events, orientation programs, major exploration activities, and University discernment initiatives.
- Build collaborative relationships with faculty, department leadership, campus partners, and student support offices to ensure coordinated and effective student services.
- Contribute to College-wide advising initiatives, committee work, program development, community‑building efforts, and special projects that advance the mission and strategic priorities of the College of Science.
- Maintain accurate student records by documenting advising interactions, completing required paperwork, and utilizing University systems to track student progress and communications.
- Perform special projects, administrative responsibilities, and other duties as assigned in support of College priorities and operational needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience supporting students through academic advising, student services, counseling, higher education administration, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience advising undergraduate students in a college or university setting.
- Thorough understanding of academic policies, degree requirements, student development principles, and higher education best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and analytical skills with the ability to effectively serve diverse student populations.
