Emotional Disabilities (ED) Paraprofessional

Reports To:

Principal and classroom teacher

Hours Of Work:
Between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. as determined by need

Position Summary:

The role of the paraprofessional is to provide additional support in the Emotional Disabilities classroom and for identified students in the general education classroom. The paraprofessional's goal is to assist in providing a well-organized, smooth functioning classroom environment in which all children can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

Essential Job Functions:

Assist the teacher of record with instruction and supervision of children in the classroom activities, both in the ED room and in the general education classroom as needed. Work with individual children or small groups of children to reinforce new skills initially introduced by the teacher. Assist the teacher in devising and implementing special strategies for reinforcing skills based on the special needs and abilities of each child.

Assist the teacher in preparing materials and activities that support lesson plans. Assist the teacher in administering and scoring appropriate screenings and assessments. Assist with daily activities such as classroom transition times, mealtimes, and recess. Model positive behavior. Assist with field trips and special activities. Monitor children to ensure a safe and effective learning environment. Participate in staff in-service when directed by the building administrator.

Help to maintain a clean and organized learning environment. Willing to provide minor medical support (such as diabetic testing and monitoring) as needed. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education:

High school diploma or GED and Current Indiana Paraprofessional Certificate. Continuing

Education:

Must be willing to submit to continuing training as required by the State, school, or the local Special Education Cooperative to maintain the position.

Experience:

Related job fieldwork experience with demonstrated ability to work without constant supervision and an interest in educating children. Required Physical

Skills:

Ability to sit, stand, walk, ascend/descend stairs, use hands to finger, handle or feel; talk and hear; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted;
Must be able to demonstrate the appropriate CPI holds, or be able to learn the skills. Required General

Skills:

Exceptional written and oral communication skills; ability to process tasks using internal software, the internet, and generally accepted office software such as word and excel.

This position is considered a full-time and non-exempt position. Actual work days 180.
