Job Description Reports To Superintendent / Business Manager Directs and coordinates activities as the Director of Special Education for Lewis Cass Schools by performing the following duties personally or through support staff. The position is considered a confidential position. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Consults with administration to analyze special education needs and determine the scope and priorities for students, student guardians and staff through the Indiana Individualized Education Plans (IIEP).

Provides the leadership necessary for the development and maintenance of a comprehensive special education program. Consults with administration to determine needs and administer the Federal Title Programs utilized by the schools to serve students identified through that programming. Prepare and manage the Title II grant to provide targeted professional development for staff. Collaborate and maintain the Title 1 grant to provide services for students identified as qualifying for that grant programming.

Manages the comprehensive 504 program and ensures that it is in compliance with Federal Law. Compliance officer for Title IX and ADA. Prepares and monitors the Lewis Cass Schools Budget and federal and state grants for special education services. Recommends and develops plans for special education needs, purchases, budget, and staffing. Manages the development, implementation, installation, and operation of special education needs for Lewis Cass Schools.

Recommends contracts with consultants, technical personnel, and vendors for services and products. Completes and/or oversees, as directed, collection and transmission of school data to appropriate local, state, and federal agencies. Assists with technology for staff and students for IIEP and other software needs pertaining to a student's special education needs. Assists with development and implementation of the special education plan.

Responsible for the development, coordination, updating and monitoring of corporation special education policies. Assists with state assessment preparation, implementation and support concerning special education. Responsible for corporation special education inventory Responsible for all required/necessary corporation special education record keeping. Assists as the public agency representative when needed. Responsible for administering psychological and educational tests and other assessment procedures and record result(s) in an official report.

Responsible for being the Expulsion Examiner for Lewis Cass Schools. Maintains contact with outside agencies in reference to special education. Provides and/or participates in, in-service training as related to special education needs, evaluation needs, state and federal regulations. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises aides and support staff such as OT, PT and psychologist with respect to special education.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Lewis Cass Schools policies, administrative guidelines and applicable laws according to Article
7. Reports to immediate supervisors any and all board policy and compliance issues involving certified and support staff personnel.

Responsibilities include:

planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining departmental employees; and addressing complaints of departmental staff. Work as a member of a multidisciplinary team for student evaluations, reports, and case conferences.

Experience:

Must hold a valid Indiana teaching license. Bachelor's degree in education/special education, from an accredited institution. Masters degree in one or more of the following; administration, school psychology, or special education from an accredited institution. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, policies and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond (impromptu or planned) to questions from groups of certified and support staff, students, and the general public.

English language required, Spanish language desired. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
