Summary & Contractor Scope Services

ReadUP is a tutoring program that helps third grade students improve their reading and writing skills. Tutors are volunteers who dedicate one hour of their time per week to read one-on-one with two students for thirty minutes each. ReadUP sessions take place three days a week at various schools throughout Central Indiana.

The ReadUP Coordinator is a contracted position responsible for supporting the successful implementation, daily operations, and continuous improvement of the ReadUP literacy program. This contractor ensures that students, schools, volunteers, and community partners experience a well-organized, high-quality reading program that advances literacy growth and fosters a positive learning environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Program Implementation
  • Oversee the daily program operations at Tzouanakis Intermediate School in Greencastle, IN (mileage stipend provided);
    Coordinate/match ReadUP volunteers with students who are to receive tutoring and supervise ReadUP sessions.
  • Trace weekly program progress and operational needs to ensure smooth and consistent execution.
  • Plan and conduct mid-year/holiday and end-of-year celebrations for tutors and students (materials provided by UWCI).
  • Attend and help coordinate additional program-related events outside of regular program time, as able and as approved by UWCI staff.
Volunteer Support &Engagement
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, providing orientation, clear instructions, and ongoing support.
  • Communicate regularly with volunteers (via email and phone) to confirm schedules, share program updates, and strengthen engagement.
  • Monitor volunteer-student interactions and provide guidance to maintain program fidelity and a safe, welcoming environment.
  • Provide volunteer recruitment support with the goal of filling all volunteer spots at each assigned site.
Student Support & Reading Facilitation
  • Oversee student participation, including group management, transitions, and behavior expectations.
  • Support reading sessions by modeling best practices, providing instructional guidance when needed, and helping volunteers tailor reading strategies to student needs.
  • Ensure materials—including books, student folders, and literacy resources—are organized, accessible, and refreshed regularly.
Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with school staff, administrators, and partners to support program implementation.
  • Communicate program updates, successes, and needs to school contact and ReadUP leadership.
  • Represent ReadUPpositively and professionally in all interactions.
Data Management & Reporting
  • Collect and submit required program data, including student and volunteer attendance, and student progress data.
  • Assist with administration and collection of program surveys.
  • Support evaluation efforts by ensuring timely and accurate data entry and documentation.
Program Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Montior program environment and activities to ensure fidelity to Read Up's model and literacy objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements and recommend changes that enhance student learning and volunteer satisfaction to the Read Up Manager.
  • Complete program orientation or trainings reasonably necessary to perform contracted services.
