About

The Role

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as‑needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

Major Responsibilities
  • Facilitate student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
  • Make optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Develop and maintain course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials; maintain accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
  • Supplement and alter, where appropriate, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials while maintaining accurate records.
  • Engage with students proactively and regularly in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and lead to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College.
  • Demonstrate evidence of developing and implementing teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning.
  • Interact with students and co‑workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complying with College policies, guidelines, and expectations.
  • Ensure knowledge of and implement emergency/safety procedures for classrooms, labs, and all learning environments.
  • Maintain a safe, quality educational environment.
  • Promote an environment that reflects the diverse backgrounds represented by students and employees in which every individual feels respected and valued.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction.
  • Respiratory Therapy Program Standard:
    Qualified faculty member in Respiratory Therapy must possess an earned baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution; completed academic preparation appropriate to the program; be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT); be an Indiana‑licensed Respiratory Therapy Practitioner (RTP); and have at least four years of direct experience in Respiratory Therapy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Available to travel to off‑site locations in Northeast Indiana such as clinics and hospitals; may require early morning starts (example: 5:30 am) depending on availability and location needs. Flexibility on travel preferences is acceptable.
Other Requirements
  • Employment contingent upon an acceptable criminal background check.
  • Unofficial transcripts required at the time of application; official transcripts due at the time of hire.
  • Classes will be taught in‑person on campus; remote option not offered.
Education And Experience
  • Meet the education component of the School of Medicine discipline standard through one of the following routes:
    • Possess any specialized certifications or credentials required for the course as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR) and have 5 years of directly related work experience related to the competencies listed in the COR.
    • Possess a current Workplace Specialist License granted by the Indiana Department of Education that is appropriate to course objectives and directly linked to credentials, certifications, and competencies listed in the COR; or possess any specialized certifications required for the course as indicated in the COR.
