VBES Kindergarten Teacher
Position OverviewThe Kindergarten Teacher at Van Buren Elementary School creates a safe, nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where all students can thrive. The teacher provides high-quality instruction that builds strong academic, social, emotional, and foundational skills while fostering curiosity, independence, and a love of learning.

Key Responsibilities A Kindergarten Teacher at Van Buren Elementary School will be responsible for the following tasks:Instructional Practices
- Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards and district curriculum.
- Provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
- Develop strong foundational literacy, mathematics, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Use assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction.
- Incorporate hands‑on, student‑centered learning experiences.
- Establish a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom culture.
- Build strong relationships with students and families.
- Establish consistent routines, expectations, and procedures.
- Support students’ social‑emotional development and positive behavior.
- Create a safe environment where students feel valued and encouraged to learn.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with families.
- Partner with families to support student learning, behavior, attendance, and well‑being.
- Participate in school events and activities that strengthen the school community.
- Collaborate with grade‑level colleagues, specialists, administrators, and support staff.
- Participate in professional learning, PLCs, and school improvement initiatives.
- Reflect on instructional practices and pursue continuous professional growth.
- Understanding of early childhood development and kindergarten learners
- Strong classroom management and relationship‑building skills
- Knowledge of early literacy and foundational mathematics
- Ability to differentiate instruction and use data effectively
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Commitment to student‑centered learning
- Professionalism, flexibility, patience, and enthusiasm
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a valid Indiana teaching license in Elementary Generalist (K–6) or Early Childhood Education (P–3), or eligibility for appropriate Indiana licensure.
- Knowledge of Indiana Academic Standards and developmentally appropriate instructional practices.
- Ability to successfully complete required background checks and employment screenings.
