Position Summary

The Jr./Sr. High School Librarian / Media Specialist is responsible for managing and developing the school library as a welcoming, engaging, and academically supportive environment for students and staff. The position combines traditional library responsibilities with student programming, academic support, enrichment opportunities, and instructional responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be a student-centered educator who can create a positive library culture, encourage students to read and explore new interests, support academic achievement, and provide meaningful opportunities for students to develop technology and information-literacy skills.

Essential

Responsibilities Library & Media Center Management
  • Oversee the daily operation and organization of the Jr./Sr. High School library.
  • Maintain an inviting, organized, and student-friendly library environment.
  • Manage the circulation of books, materials, and other library resources.
  • Select, order, catalog, and maintain books and other library resources based on student interests, curriculum needs, and available resources.
  • Evaluate existing library materials and make recommendations for additions, replacements, or removals.
  • Assist students and staff in locating appropriate books, resources, and research materials.
  • Maintain an appropriate balance of recreational reading, academic resources, and materials representing a variety of student interests and reading levels.
  • Establish and maintain library procedures that promote student responsibility and appropriate use of the facility.
  • Operate and manage the school library's coffee bar, including maintaining appropriate procedures, inventory, cleanliness, and student engagement.
Academic Honors Student Support
  • Supervise and monitor students participating in academic honors/study opportunities.
  • Provide an organized and productive environment for honors students to complete academic work.
  • Assist students with organization, research, study skills, and appropriate use of academic resources.
  • Communicate with the Guidance Department as needed regarding student progress, expectations, and academic needs.
Computer Science Instruction
  • Teach one assigned computer science rotation/course as part of the school's instructional program.
  • Provide students with opportunities to develop foundational computer science, technology, problem-solving, and computational-thinking skills.
  • Incorporate appropriate technology and digital resources into instruction.
  • Maintain an engaging and accessible learning environment for students with varying levels of technology experience.
School & Professional Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other staff to support student success.
  • Participate in professional development and school activities as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Follow all school corporation policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or superintendent.
Qualifications Required
  • Preferred Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and Indiana Media Specialist License.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students in grades 7-12.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a busy school environment.
  • Commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students.
Compensation

Compensation will be based upon the candidate's applicable Indiana teaching/media specialist licensure and placement on the North Vermillion Community School Corporation salary schedule. Candidates possessing an Indiana Media Specialist license are preferred, but candidates with other licensure may be considered.
