Position Overview

IMSA North is seeking an experienced educator who is passionate about literacy instruction and interested in developing into a Literacy Coach through the Indiana Literacy Cadre.

The successful candidate does not need previous experience as a literacy or instructional coach
. We are looking for a strong educator who meets the required qualifications, demonstrates knowledge of effective literacy instruction, works well with other educators, and is eager to participate in the professional learning, training, and coaching necessary to grow into this leadership role.

The Literacy Coach will work alongside teachers and school leaders to strengthen literacy instruction, support implementation of practices grounded in the Science of Reading
, analyze student data, and improve literacy outcomes for students.

The selected candidate must meet Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) requirements and is subject to final approval by IDOE.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must:

  • Hold at least a bachelor's degree
    .
  • Hold a valid Professional Indiana Teacher's License
    .
  • Have obtained the Early Literacy Endorsement
    .
  • Have a minimum of five years of teaching experience
    .
  • Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices grounded in the Science of Reading
    .
  • Demonstrate strong classroom instructional practices and a commitment to improving student literacy achievement.
  • Be willing to develop their skills in literacy and instructional coaching through the Indiana Literacy Cadre.
  • Be willing to participate in all required training, professional development, coaching, and Communities of Practice.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, organization, and relationship-building skills.
Key Responsibilities Develop as a Literacy Coach
  • Participate fully in training and professional learning provided through the Indiana Literacy Cadre.
  • Develop skills in observing instruction, providing feedback, modeling lessons, co-planning, and supporting teacher reflection.
  • Participate in a monthly Community of Practice and other required professional learning.
  • Work closely with school administration and Cadre partners to continuously develop coaching knowledge and skills.
  • Apply new learning directly to coaching and instructional support within the school.
Support Teachers and Instruction
  • Develop positive, collaborative relationships with teachers.
  • Support teachers in implementing evidence-based literacy practices grounded in the Science of Reading.
  • Assist teachers with planning and implementing effective literacy lessons.
  • Model instructional practices and strategies when appropriate.
  • Participate in classroom observations, coaching conversations, and instructional planning.
  • Help teachers identify instructional strengths and areas for continued growth.
  • Support teachers across grade levels based on identified student and instructional needs.
Curriculum and Science of Reading
  • Support implementation of IMSA North's core literacy curriculum.
  • Help ensure literacy instruction is aligned with the Science of Reading.
  • Support instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and oral language.
  • Help teachers identify and respond to student literacy needs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, interventionists, special education staff, and multilingual learner staff to strengthen literacy instruction for all students.
Assessment and Student Data
  • Support the administration and use of Acadience Reading K–6 three times per year.
  • Help teachers analyze literacy assessment results and identify areas of student need.
  • Participate in grade-level and school wide data meetings.
  • Assist teachers in using data to plan instruction, interventions, and student supports.
