Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional
UIndy Teaching / Literacy Assistant Position Purpose
The UIndy Teaching Assistant position is a paid internship program that allows UIndy Teacher Education candidates to have the opportunity to work in a K-12 district as a paraprofessional while completing their college practicum requirements.
The undergraduate pre-service teacher will work between 15 to 19 hours per week for a 15 to 16 week semester (approximately 225-240 hours over the semester.) The Teaching Assistant will be assigned a Mentor Teacher at the school, who will be expected to oversee the UIndy internship experience. UIndy will also assign a Supervising Faculty Member who will make on-site or virtual visits during the semester.
The Teaching Assistant must be able to complete practicum assignments (totaling approximately 15 hours over the semester) while on site. The primary duty will be to function as a paraprofessional in the school.
The Teaching Assistant works closely with staff and administration to promote and execute the instructional plan of the building by creating a positive learning environment.
Essential Job Functions- Work under the direction of the classroom teacher and assist with the responsibility to increase student achievement.
- Assistant with restrooms and feeding needs of students if necessary.
- Model professionalism in appearance, actions, and attitude.
- Ensure that all activities conform to building and district guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Appropriately operate all classroom equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Use standard equipment such as personal computers, printer, smart boards, copier and fax machines, calculator, and telephone.

Pay Rate$15.00 per hour
Work Schedule- Work schedule will vary depending on school schedule but will be consistent throughout the semester.

- Must be a current UIndy student enrolled in the Education Program seeking licensure as a teacher.
