College of Arts and Letters Provost's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program,

Annual base salary $75,000 and a Research & Training Allowance of $15,000 to cover expenses related to research endeavors and further training. Two-year appointment.

The Provost's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at the University of Notre Dame supports outstanding early-career scholars in science, engineering, and the liberal arts who seek to make a difference in the world. For the  academic years, the Program in the College of Arts and Letters will appoint a cohort of eight postdoctoral fellows in residence at the University. The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures will host one fellow.

The Program in Spanish (Iberian & Latin American Studies) at the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures seeks to complement our existing research and course coverage - currently in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, the US, and South America - while also adding novel, ground-breaking scholarship to our current program profile. The new areas of interest include Africa and the Philippines, the interplay of both the Atlantic and the Pacific trade routes, the rise of a Spanish-speaking population in Asia, as well as migration, economic and cultural flows from the Maghreb and sub-Saharan Africa into Spain, and from Latin America and Europe to Asia.

We seek scholars with innovative, theoretically informed approaches and areas of interest that challenge structures of power based on categories such as nation-state, class, race, ethnicity, religion, and gender across the literary, visual, and cultural productions of the Global Hispanophone.

The postdoctoral fellow will be assigned a faculty mentor, who will support the scholar in her/his current research projects and the development of a career profile, and will introduce her/him to the students in the Department and working groups on campus such as the Kellogg Institute for International Studies, the Nanovic Institute for European Studies, as well as initiatives such as the Environmental Humanities and the Race & Resilience initiatives on campus.

The successful candidate will have opportunities to teach and collaborate with a wide range of students at the undergraduate and graduate level.

The College will appoint the fellows for a two-year term. Hosting units will provide fellows with office space and work together with the Director of Postdoctoral Studies in the College to identify primary faculty mentors for the fellows' proposed research projects. Every six months, the director and hosting units will review the fellows' progress in their research and discuss future plans.

Monetary support and faculty mentoring will be coupled with professional development and networking opportunities in and outside of the hosting unit.

Applicants must have successfully completed (or plan to complete) a doctoral degree between June 2024 and June 2027. Earlier dates may be accepted if maternity or paternity leave, or Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave occurred within the past two years.

Scholars of all nationalities may apply. We welcome candidates with or without permanent full-time research or teaching positions. Doctoral candidates and graduates of the University of Notre Dame, as well as current postdoctoral scholars at the University, are not eligible.
