IN, United States

Job Description

Position Overview

Butler University Camps & Community Programs is hiring energetic, responsible, and student-centered team members for Summer 2026. This general summer employment posting serves as the entry point for multiple camp-based roles across our youth and pre-college programs.

Our programs serve a wide range of students—from elementary-age campers to rising high school juniors and seniors—and focus on leadership development, creativity, academic exploration, and community building. Summer staff play a critical role in creating a safe, welcoming, engaging, and growth-oriented environment for all participants.

Role placement may involve daytime supervision, overnight residential responsibilities, leadership of small cohorts, logistical support, or team coordination.

Core Responsibilities

While specific duties vary by role, all summer staff are expected to:

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for participants
  • Build meaningful relationships with campers and serve as mentors
  • Model professionalism, enthusiasm, and respect
  • Support daily programming, transitions, and activities
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow counselors and program staff
  • Communicate concerns appropriately and follow safety protocols

Represent Butler University with integrity and pride

  • Extended daytime hours
  • Supervising off-campus field trips
  • Leading small groups of approximately 8–12 students
  • Supporting medication retrieval or logistics
  • Facilitating team meetings or assisting in staff leadership
Required Qualifications
  • Current Butler student (for Pre-College roles) or approved program staff eligibility
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to working with diverse youth populations
  • Reliability, professionalism, and maturity
  • Completion of required summer trainings

Certain leadership roles may require additional certifications such as CPR/First Aid.

Training & Commitment

All staff must attend mandatory training sessions in May 2026 (specific dates provided upon hire). Additional certifications (such as DCS Child Abuse training) may be required prior to program start.

Program weeks occur in June and July 2026. Applicants may be eligible to serve one or multiple weeks based on availability and program placement.

Compensation

Compensation varies by role and level of responsibility. Specific information will be provided upon placement.
