The American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) is the collective spirit and unifying voice of our nation's Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs). AIHEC advances American Indian and Alaska Native higher education through advocacy, research, member services, and programmatic initiatives designed to strengthen Native languages, cultures, communities and Tribal Nations. Through its unique position, AIHEC serves as a collaborative partner to member institutions and emerging TCUs.

AIHEC also publishes the Tribal College Journal (TCJ), a premier national publication highlighting innovations, achievements, and issues impacting American Indian higher education.

Position Summary

The NASA Building Bridges Program Manager provides leadership for the planning, implementation, management, and sustainability of AIHEC's NASA Building Bridges Program. The program is designed to strengthen Tribal Colleges and Universities' capacity to deliver high-quality STEM education, participate in collaborative STEM research, and expand pathways for American Indian and Alaska Native students into STEM careers and the NASA workforce. The Program Manager serves as the primary coordinator of program activities and works collaboratively with Tribal Colleges and Universities, NASA representatives, partner organizations, funders, and other stakeholders.

The position is responsible for program administration, stakeholder engagement, technical assistance, reporting, evaluation, communications, and partnership development activities that advance program goals and support institutional capacity building throughout the TCU system.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Programs.

Supervisory Responsibilities This position may provide oversight, coordination, guidance, and support to interns, temporary staff, consultants, or other project personnel as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Administration

  • Lead the day-to-day planning, implementation, management, and administration of the NASA Building Bridges Program.
  • Develop and manage project plans, work plans, timelines, deliverables, and implementation strategies.
  • Coordinate program activities among AIHEC staff, Tribal Colleges and Universities, NASA personnel, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor project performance and progress toward program goals and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements, reporting obligations, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Support the long-term sustainability and strategic growth of the NASA Building Bridges initiative.

Tribal College and University Engagement

  • Provide technical assistance, guidance, and support to participating Tribal Colleges and Universities.
  • Assist institutions in strengthening culturally responsive STEM education, research, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Foster collaboration, information sharing, and promising practices among participating institutions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with TCU leadership, faculty, staff, students, and community partners.

Partnership Development and External Relations

  • Serve as a primary liaison between AIHEC, NASA, Tribal Colleges and Universities, and other partner organizations.
  • Coordinate planning and collaboration activities with federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent AIHEC and the NASA Building Bridges Program at meetings, conferences, workshops, webinars, and related events.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen partnerships and expand program impact.

Communications and Outreach

  • Develop and disseminate program communications, resources, success stories, and informational materials.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, briefing materials, and stakeholder communications.
  • Support outreach efforts that increase awareness of program opportunities and outcomes.
  • Assist senior leadership with materials related to STEM initiatives and program achievements.

Capacity Building, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Design and facilitate workshops, webinars, training, and other professional development opportunities.
