Special Education Teacher - Middle School

• Under direction, special education teachers will teach and instruct students in grades 6-8 with special learning needs, plan, develop, organize, and conduct a comprehensive education program for special education students, and assist students, parents, and others in adjusting to a structured educational environment.
• You will assess student's skills to determine their needs and develop teaching plans.
• Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students.
• Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student.
• Plan, organize and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities.
• Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one.
• Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress.
• Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals.
• Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
• Supervise and mentor teacher assistants who work with students with disabilities.
• Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade.

• You have worked hard to obtain a Bachelor’s degree.
• You possess a license as a teacher of special education.
• You are a creative thinker and problem solver, an excellent communicator with strong collaboration skills and are a team player.
• You have excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multitask.
• You are able to provide a motivating and stimulating learning environment.
• You have the ability to communicate cooperatively and constructively with students, parents, and fellow staff members in a multicultural environment.
• You have demonstrated proficient use of technology.
