Brief Description
Performs assigned projects, procedures or tasks, at a level of independent expertise, involving the maintenance of optimum chemical treatment and/or analysis of liquid and solid wastes, fuels, oil and lubrication, emission gases, sewage, flyash, as well as the various unit-cooling waters. Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Obtains samples and performs analyses to determine existing conditions, in comparison with established standards, of the following: liquid/solid wastes (demineralization process), fuels, oil and lubrication, emission gases, sewage, unit water, river and lake waters, potable water, and flyash.
- Operates and calibrates the chemical feeds and dosages to properly maintain established standards.
- Make sketches, take notes, draw graphs and complete reports to maintain accurate records of all samples and analyses indicated in the first duty list.
- Reports all abnormal conditions, malfunctions or aberrations in a responsible and timely fashion.
- Inspects and makes a daily surveillance of chemical monitoring instruments to include cleaning and calibrating of instruments.
- Ensures proper utilization, maintenance and security of assigned tools, equipment and work areas.
- Maintains appropriate channels of communication and cooperation with personnel from other departments for the purpose of instructing or advising plant personnel in the application of certain chemical feeds and dosages, as appropriate.
- Act in an exemplary manner to maintain and promote safe practices and procedures regarding the storage and handling of plant chemicals.
- Conduct other special tests, as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Internal Relationships:
- Exchanges information with Results and Efficiency Engineers concerning testing and analytical information.
- Exchanges information and conduct analyses with the Merom and Petersburg pant personnel.
- Exchanges information with all other plant personnel.
- External Relationships:
- Exchanges information and develops expertise with professional societies and other utilities.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or its equivalent (2-yr associate degree in chemistry plus 2 years of experience in water chemistry) (high school diploma plus five years of experience in water chemistry).
- Experience:
- At least three years of power plant experience, where a thorough knowledge of chemical practices and techniques was obtained.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Sampling, analysis and treatment of the solids, liquids and gases associated with the operation of a coal-fired power plant (or some other similar heavy industry).
