Role Summary

The Environmental Specialist will support environmental compliance efforts through field investigations, regulatory documentation, and technical analysis. This role involves working with multidisciplinary teams and coordinating with regulatory agencies to ensure projects meet environmental requirements while moving efficiently through planning and permitting stages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Environmental Review & Documentation
    • Prepare environmental review materials consistent with federal, state, and local regulatory frameworks.
    • Develop technical documents such as impact assessments, resource reports, and permit applications.
    • Contribute to mitigation plans and assist with monitoring activities for restoration or habitat improvement sites.
  • Fieldwork & Technical Data Collection
    • Conduct on‑site investigations, including wetland delineations, waterway assessments, and natural resource surveys.
    • Gather environmental data from soil, water, vegetation, and spatial sources.
    • Produce accurate maps and figures using GIS tools and field‑collected GPS data.
    • Analyze environmental conditions and help identify suitable impact avoidance or minimization measures.
  • Coordination & Communication
    • Work with regulatory agencies to clarify requirements and discuss potential project impacts.
    • Support clients by providing clear guidance on timelines, processes, and environmental considerations.
    • Assist with creating proposals and identifying opportunities for future project work.
    • Participate in public or stakeholder engagement activities when required.
  • Quality & Compliance
    • Review technical work to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established quality protocols.
    • Contribute to responses addressing regulatory questions or requests for additional information.
    • Support internal quality assurance efforts across project deliverables.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Geology, Biology, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in environmental consulting, compliance, permitting, or resource assessment.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in varying terrain and weather conditions.
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting topics such as wetlands, waterways, protected species, water quality, or cultural resources.
  • General proficiency with Microsoft Office; spatial or GIS experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting infrastructure, transportation, or land‑development projects.
  • Knowledge of federal environmental review processes and resource agency coordination.
  • Experience preparing environmental assessments, mapping products, or permitting documentation.
  • Exposure to mitigation design, restoration monitoring, or spatial analysis tools.
