Environmental Staff Scientist - Indianapolis

Patriot Engineering and Environmental, an employee‑owned diverse engineering firm, is seeking an Environmental Staff Scientist to join our Indianapolis, IN office. The entry‑to‑mid‑level position involves field work planning, collection and documentation of soil, water, and air samples, environmental monitoring and reporting, data management, and may include construction observations for a variety of projects focused on environmental compliance.

• Coordinate and assist with scoping and scheduling field investigations and routine environmental monitoring events.
• Oversee and conduct soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, and air monitoring sampling.
• Coordinate schedules for ongoing monitoring events; develop and maintain compliance calendars.
• Collect, interpret data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
• Conduct erosion and sediment control inspections.
• Review and revise Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs).
• Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
• Conduct soil, groundwater, and surface water sampling.
• Assist with review, evaluation, and interpretation of environmental data and prepare technical reports.
• Maintain detailed records of field activities.
• Interact and communicate with clients, vendors, and Patriot team at all levels.
• Adhere to and promote Patriot’s health and safety and loss prevention procedures and policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, to accommodate schedules.
• Ability to travel to other offices and project sites, including extended overnight stays out of town or out of state; field work may take place in remote locations with minimal amenities available.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Prepare technical documents using MS Word and Excel.
• Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and terrain conditions.
• Excellent computer and technical skills.
• Experience utilizing tablets and various applications to promote paperless documentation procedures.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs. and perform repetitive work such as lifting, bending, and standing for long periods of time.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.
